Our story
Atonsu Royal African Caribbean Food Market
Named for the Atonsu community in Kumasi, Ghana, our market was opened to give Houston's African and Caribbean families one dependable place to find the ingredients that taste like home.
Our family moved to Houston with recipes we were not ready to give up. Finding proper pounded yam flour, koobi, ewedu or a trustworthy cut of goat meat meant driving across the city — and often leaving with the wrong thing.
So we opened a store we would want to shop in. Clean, well lit and organised, with staff who cook these dishes at home and can tell you the difference between banku mix and corn meal without hesitating.
Today, Atonsu Royal serves families from across Harris County. Some shop weekly for rice and stew ingredients. Others come in for shea butter, African fabric, or a mortar and pestle for the family kitchen. We stock all of it because our community asked for it.
